On 5 October, 2022 the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners [RACGP] held a Crisis Summit with Government in Canberra to address the myriad of problems facing general practice.
The focus of the summit was on the three key areas: funding, workforce and data governance. The RACGP called for an immediate and substantial increase in Medicare patient rebates.
In spite of this, there was no increase to Medicare funding in the budget handed down this week (25/10/2022).
The focus of government support to general practice was by way of the funding of 50 Urgent Care Clinics to be rolled out across NSW and Victoria.
What chance that Swan Hill will benefit from this, given we are not in a marginal seat?
Due to the rising costs of providing healthcare and the government’s continued lack of support to the Medicare system we will be increasing our fees effective from 1st December, 2022. From that date, most services at Swan Hill Medical Group will incur an out of pocket charge.
Medicare rebates are processed at the time of payment via our Tyro EFTPOS terminals.
